It just doesn’t seem to sound right, does it? To say that rejection is favor? But then again, someone once said that successful people are the few people who do things and see things in ways that most others don’t. In the same way, to have peace and joy that most others don’t have, we need to think and see things in ways that most don't think or see.
To have peace and joy that most others don’t have, we need to think and see things in ways that most don't think or see.
This is why God says “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Changing the way we think and understand things is what will change our lives. Not circumstances: not a better job, not getting married, not success, not achieving our dreams, etc. Some of these things are good, and they provide momentary happiness, but it’s God’s Truth that really actually sets us free, not just momentarily, but eternally; and not just physically, but spiritually, in such a way that our heart, soul, and spirit are in true consistent peace.
So might I suggest, even challenge you, through God’s Word to change the way you think and feel about rejection. There is a verse in the fifth Psalm that says the following:
Psalm 5:12 (NIV) 12 Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
We mentioned this in the Sunday Sermon “Overcoming the Fear of Rejection” (available on Youtube and Podcast), that the favor of God acts like a shield. In the natural, a shield protects us by blockings things that can hurt/damage us. In other words, a shield “rejects” things for our good.
In similar fashion, there are “product” or “material” inspectors who examine materials before they are used in the construction of a product. The higher value and quality of product that they are trying to produce, then the higher the standards for which materials are accepted, which then means there are a lot more materials that are rejected than accepted. All that rejection is because the product is meant to be of high value and quality and so only the best things are accepted
Like a high end product, we have great value to God, and His plans are to produce the best quality of blessings and fruit in our lives.
This is how rejection is a form of God’s favor in our lives. Like a high end product, we have great value to God, and His plans are to produce the best quality of blessings and fruit in our lives. Therefore, because we are so valuable to Him and because we are so important to Him, God will let us go through a lot of rejections so that only the best materials are used in our lives.
So the next time you go through a “rejection” decide to see it through a different lens. Rejoice and thank God for the rejection, because it means God is watching out for you and He is protecting your life from being “cheapened” by lesser materials. You are too valuable, your destiny too important for God to allow just anything, or even sometimes good things, to be part of your life, when in fact, He wants only the best things for us.
Scriptures for further meditation and prayer:
Psalm 23:6 (ESV) 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
James 1:17 (NIV) 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Lamentations 3:25 (ESV) The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.
