Setting Our Priority
“Seek first” means to prioritize. It means first things first! When we prioritize seeking God and His kingdom first we are making the choice to seek and pursue God first before anything else as our highest priority.
God promises that that when we prioritize seeking Him first it will end up blessing and helping all the other areas of our lives: “and all these things shall be added to you.” “Seek first” doesn’t mean we don’t ever seek after other things. What it means is we prioritize God as of first importance and of first action.
Turning to God First
For example, when we have a problem, we prioritize turning to him before we look to others. If we are feeling lonely, we prioritize going to God first to look for comfort before we look to other things to fill that loneliness. If we are trying to figure out a big decision, we first take time to ask God for His will and direction.
When we prioritize seeking God and His kingdom first we are making the choice to seek and pursue God first before anything else as our highest priority.
Again, this doesn’t mean we don’t do anything else, it means, in general, we look to God first and then do the other things that we need to do. Before anything, "seek first" God!
